Hot Air Balloon 2
Materials
- a bag
- 5 candles
-straws

Our group began with an idea similar to our final product. The same shape but we cut the straws in half lenthwise to reduce the weight of the duct tape we used. Our candles were also cut small to reduce the weight of our hot air balloon. We used duct tape instead of the masking tape in the end because the masking tape was not string enough to hold the bag and straws.
When we were done making our hot air balloon, it was testing time. We lit the candles. We waited for the bag to fill up with air. But in the end it was not successful.
Therefore, our idea of thinner straws and smaller candles were not a good enough idea to make out hot air balloon successful.

Hot Air Balloon
Materials
- egg lander before this experiment
- extra tape
- 10 candles
- garbage bag
The idea of the structure was thought of by our group which was to make it large enough to fit the bag we were given. We had many different ideas how to put the candle on the straw and we decided to cut the straws open like a hole so we can poke the candle through. We used 5 candles  one on each straw. We did not use more than 5 because the mass of the candles would be too heavy. We had planned to make the structure into a square and we also wanted to support the structure with more straws but we realized it would just add on more weight.
Finished product without the bag
When we added the garbage bag, we taped each of the 5 straws to the bag but it was really difficult to do so. The tape was not sticky enough. Every tape we stick onto the bag would just fall off. In the end, we never got to test the air balloon out but most likely wouldn't have worked.

Star Gazing Night on Thursday September 27
This night was a wonderful night because I saw some amazing things in the night sky with the telescopes. I started with the telescope that was pointed to the moon. The details of the moon were all shown such as the craters. Second telescope I went to showed the Summer Triangle. The Summer triangle is made with 3 stars: Vega, Deneb, and Altair which is shown below.
The next telescope I went to showed the Wild Duck Cluster. The man told us some people believed the cluster looked like a duck but I didn't see it as a duck. It was a great experience and I would love to do this again.

Egg Lander Mission 2

 Materials given:
- 25 straws
- Masking tape
This time, our group realized how important it is to have the egg farther from the ground so we made our lander with 2 square-based pyramids and a holder for the egg. We also supported the sides with straws to protect all the sides of the egg lander.
For the egg holder, we wanted it to hold the egg in place but we did not want the egg to be held too closely to the straws or else the drop will create tension between the straws and the egg.
After the drop, the egg had not survived the drop. Out group was very confident that we would not break the egg but in the end, it did.
We realized that the structure would not take most of the shock and therefore the egg broke.

Egg Lander Mission
Caleb Lee

Materials Given:
- 20 straws
- Masking Tape
- Sheet of Newspaper

The design that we came up with was a box made of the straws and  the egg would be inside the box covered with the newspaper we were given. We had many different drawings of what we should make but we chose the box with the straws pointing outwards because we thought the straws would help the structure stay intact while all the force would move throughout the straws. We first started off making a box to hold the egg in the center with the sheet of newspaper. We made it by cutting the part where the straw bends. Afterwards, we took the remaining straws and taped them around the box we made. We left one part open so we could slip the egg in and then we covered the opening with more straws.
When the egg lander was dropped, I saw the egg lander drop right on the corner of the lander and the egg had cracked.  The reason for the crack was because we did not put enough straws on the corners of the box, we only put them on the sides.
If we could improve on the model of the egg lander, I would have protected the box on all sides and corners. This would create a better shield and a better lander.
